9th Grape Culture Festival kicks off in Zhangpai Village

Aug Mon 2024
The 9th Grape Culture Festival was held in Zhangpai Village, Hexi Town, Jishou City on the evening of August 16. More than ten grape sales stalls were set up on the site of the opening ceremony. With rich grape varieties, people were busy buying, eating, and selling grapes on the site.

Zhangpai Village is a well-known grape village. It has nearly a planting area of 850 mu (about 56.67 hectares) of grapes, with 117 grape growers and an annual output value exceeding 10 million yuan. At present, there are more than ten grape varieties such as Chongming Rose and Jufeng Grape, and multiple grape brands have won gold awards from the China Association of Agricultural Science Societies and Hunan Grape Association.

This year’s Grape Culture Festival will last until August 20 and activities such as the “Zhongnan Cup” basketball invitation tournament and square dance competition will also be held.

Luo Qiyan, the largest grape grower in Zhangpai Village, established the Youqinsheng Planting and Breeding Cooperative with her husband. At the event, her grape stall was bustling with people. “This year, due to good climate, there is a bumper harvest of grapes, with a total output of more than 50,000 kilograms, half more than that of last year,” she said.

According to Tian Zusheng, Party secretary of the village, farmers began planting grapes in 2003 in the village. Thanks to the suitable natural environment, the quality of grapes here is excellent. Besides, the village has convenient transportation, only 10 kilometers away from Jishou City. Grapes produced here have always been sold well, especially the Jufeng series. Now the average annual income of villagers increases by over 7,000 yuan, greatly promoting the development of the village collective economy.
